During his visit to Ouagadougou last november, French President, Emmanuel Macron stated « I am convinced that Africa is shaping the sustainable city of tomorrow »

In this regard and in line with the spirit of the Africa-France sumit that will be held in 2020, the Regional economic department of the French Embassy in Nairobi in partnership with the Kenyan Minstry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, Business France, the French Ministry of ecological and inclusive transition, UN-Habitat and the UN Program for Environment has decided to organize the first event dedicated to sustainable urban development in East Africa. This conference will take place on the 9th and 10th of July 2018 in Nairobi.

It will gather experts, companies and actors from France and East Africa to discuss and share experiences through an approach addressing transversal issues such as governance, legal framework and regulation, financing, and climate change planning and sectorial topics such as urban mobility, heritage and conservation, circular economy, water and sanitation, smart cities and green buildings.

Under the aegis of Vivapolis, the Nairobi conference aims to launch cooperation and build partnership between East Africa and France on sustainable urban development. This event will be the first one of a series of long-term actions on a regional scale. From July 2018, similar events will be organised alternatively in each partner country in East Africa. They will take different forms and focus on a range of topics adressing the revelant needs of recipient countries.

In parallel, bilateral cooperation frameworks concluded in every country will pave way for more targeted actions and interventions.
