Strengthening European energy autonomy and achieving the green transition

Amid tensions with Russia and the war in Ukraine, it has never been more necessary to ensure the European Union’s energy independence and deliver on the green transition. Against this backdrop, the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union is hosting a conference entitled “Strengthening Europe’s energy independence and delivering on the green transition”, which will look at options and strategies for bolstering Europe’s strategic autonomy. It will feature discussions between European commissioners, ministers from Member States, academics, regulators, associations and business leaders.

More generally, discussions will focus on policy and technology developments that can accelerate the green transition as part of the European Green Deal, and how to address rising energy costs and increasing demand for low-carbon power.
